A movement of growing influence within American religion and theology in recent years is pluralism. This is especially evident in the presence of a variety of religions within American culture and in the reactions to this presence. Pluralism is the idea that no one religion is exclusively true, to the exclusion of the others, but that there is truth in each religion. John Hick has for many years been an outspoken advocate of this approach. Hick was raised as a nominal Christian, but during
